The Colorado Springs Liquor and Beer Licensing Board approved the request to suspend 13 Pure/Syn Night Club's liquor license at Wednesday's special called meeting following an incidence of violence this past weekend.

Around two dozen Colorado Springs police officers were called out to help bring the peace early Sunday, when several fights that started inside the club, moved outside, resulting in more than a half dozen people getting injured. The club is located at 217 East Pikes Peak Avenue.

Police say more than 22 cruisers showed up at the fight that involved about 100 people, that's out of 54 officers who were on our city streets that night. City leaders say that is a public safety concern and that's why they called a special liquor board meeting for Wednesday.

"When you have that many units going to one call obviously that does impact the rest of the community," said Lt. Thomas Harris, with Colorado Springs Police.

City leaders say they called the special meeting because Saturdays incident posed a safety risk to the community.

The suspension will be in effect for the next 15 days.

Being a bouncer at one of the other clubs on Tejon, I can completely relate to this issue. The problem is the CSPD is spread out to thin through out downtown, so when there is a large problem it can not be resolved before it gets out of hand. Then all the officers respond and leave the other bars to fend for themselves. The other issue is the city expects the bars to be responsible for everything that happens out on the sidewalk. When the CSPD is there, they usually stay in their cars until something happens rather then clearing the sidewalks with us and making their presence known. Last summer they had a great idea to close the street between 1:30am and 2:30am and had a line of officers go down the street to clear everyone out, but unfortunately this did not last long. It is a blast to work downtown, but for less then $10 an hour, no tips from the bar tenders, and the possibility of being stabbed the security can only care so much about what happens outside our doors.

Yeah close it down, send everyone over a block to one of Sam's places. LOL maybe he can handle it. Also... isn't this what we pay of police department to do, show up when things like this happen? What else happend that night that the CSPD was pulled away from? Maybe sitting in there cars facing the opposite direction talking to each other........... whatever, you know you have seen them do this. AND no they are not doing paper work.
