Ward Churchill Fired

The University of Colorado Board of Regents has fired Professor Ward Churchill. Churchill set off a firestorm of controversy when he likened some September 11th victims to Nazi Adolph Eichman.

Churchill has said he would sue in federal court if he were fired.

The vote by regents today came after two-and-a-half years of academic investigations.

University officials have said Churchill's remarks on September 11th were protected speech under the First Amendment.

However the school launched an investigation into the tenured professor's other works.

Faculty committees accused Churchill of plagiarism, falsification and other misconduct.

Took them long enough. This loser needs to move out of state, shave his head & get a real job for awhile. What a moron.

His situation is exactly what's wrong with "tenure". While I believe he's free to say what he wants to say and in a right to work state the School should be free to distance themselves from comments they believe can damage their academic and reruiting goals.

If Ward Churchill's appeal is unsuccessful (I suspect it will be based on what I've seen and heard so far), I would gladly contribute to a fund that would counter-sue him and his lawyer for the wasted time and expense incurred by CU. Only in America can you sue somebody when you lie and plagerize or when you want $54Million for a pair of pants. Our system must be "broke" to put up with such stupidity.

Finally!!!! And he's going to sue. What a jerk.

His firing has nothing to do with his 9/11 comments, rather his plagerism and academic integrity. If he stayed on at UC, it would cheapen the work of all the other fine scholars and researchers in the whole University of Colorado system. Good riddence! It's about time.
