Police said a suspected drunk driver hit a mother and her child driving in a mini-van.

Colorado Springs Police said driving drunk is a problem that's rampant in the city and nearly every single night of the week, they arrest drivers for having too much to drink before getting behind the wheel.

The crash last night happened on Colorado Avenue and 28th Street. Police said the drunk driver cut-off a mini-van before rolling once.

"He didn't have permission to take my vehicle," Loni Wood said. Her face winced as she heard glass falling out of her Explorer when was getting turned right-side up.

"The lady in the mini-van was shaken up. The two guys in the Explorer got out and looked around like nothing happened," said Brittainy Bruno.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) said drunk driving is becoming more of a problem.

“It’s estimated that 41 percent of car crashes in El Paso County [in 2006] are alcohol-involved,” Pam Vanoverbeke with MADD said. "Even if you've had one drink, it puts you in a higher risk to get into a crash."

Loni Wood spent Friday night picking up the pieces to her car.

"I'm upset. I’m a single mom of 3 and I live paycheck to paycheck," she said.

Police said there were no serious injuries in the crash. MADD says on weekend nights, between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., one in three drivers on I-25 has been drinking.

I appreciate all our city does to keep the roads safe. With many citizens working night shifts, they can be at risk by those whom are out there drinking and driving-should pay for all damages. Thank God seat belts were worn by this mom and child.

Colorado Springs Police said driving drunk is a problem that's rampant in the city and nearly every single night of the week. These items are NOT considered when stating this is a great place to live. I'm sure there are MUCH better things to do than get liquored up all the time.
