Colorado Springs Police arrest a soldier who brought a hand-gun inside a bar early Saturday morning.

Police say around 12:20a.m. they were called to the Copperhead Road Restaurant and Bar off North Academy to investigate a report of a man with a gun. By the time they arrived security officers at the bar had secured the weapon and the suspect.

Police say the suspect, 24-year-old Michael Spallone, an active duty U.S. Army soldier, was intoxicated and became angry at other patrons at the bar. Spallone had a loaded semi-automatic handgun with him and he made threats that he was going to kill some of the patrons. Some of his friends overheard the threats and notified security.

Spallone was charged with Prohibited Use of Weapons, which is a misdemeanor.

Tammy, We are minding our own lives. Its your son that is risking our own lives by being foolish and brandishing a gun in a crowded bar. I don't like the copperhead bar, and question the professionalism of some of the employees, but that doesn't give him the right to risk others lives. Your son needs to grow up. Stop sticking up for him, and get him the major treatment he needs.

Tammy, You may be the soldiers mother but he's an adult now and needs to take responsibility. I personally know what the facts are and you son was in the wrong. Time for him to man up, take responsibility and hug his mother, say sorry for being irresponsible and bringing dishonor to you and the rest of the family. I have a son as well in the military and if he pulled a stupid rabbit trick like that I most definetly wouldn't be defending him on a forum like this.

Ditto to what Larry Lynch says with one exception. If you are a concealed weapons permit holder, it is legal to enter a bar with your weapon. However, it is not legal to consume alcohol while armed. Common sense dictates that it's not a good idea to go to a club while carrying. In this case, the guy did everything wrong. Also, that was below the belt with what General said. However, when you compare the arrests made of military members here in El Paso County, the Army ranks number one. No getting around that. I am retired USAF of 25 years and I have to tell you this doesnt shock me. Unfortunately, it's a very well known fact the Army has really lowered they're standards for entry into their service. Lower standards equal more personnel problems with more negative contact with the public. That's too bad.
