The nation's bishops are taking strong stances on issues that have been dividing the Catholic Church the past few months.
The 6-day meeting outside Denver ended with a statement on the issues of abortion and the role of Catholic politicians.
Bishops say abortion is a moral issue all Catholic politicians are obligated to oppose. As for denying Communion to candidates, they've decided to leave the decision to the individual dioceses.
The statement was adopted Friday by an overwhelming vote of 183 to 6.
