Several important issues, including regulating medical marijuana were on the Colorado Springs City Council's agenda Monday.
City council listened to a two and a half hour presentation outlining how the city can better regulate this growing industry.
The proposed ordinance regulating medical marijuana would be a guide for law enforcement and it would also allow the medical marijuana industry to operate without fear of prosecution.
Under the proposed ordinance, dispensary owners would be required to apply for both a city and state sales tax license and pay all required taxes.
It would also limit the hours of operation and require dispensaries be located at least 250 feet from a public school.
Some city council members disagree with the distance, citing liquor stores have to be 500 feet from a school. They're also worried about foot traffic in and out the dispensaries located in neighborhoods.
This draft of the ordinance was put together by a task force made up of members of the industry as well as law enforcement officers and two city council members.
City council plans to discuss medical marijuana again at their first informal session in March.

sorry john maybe you can find a better supplyer as for me i'm 54 and it works great for me
John, not every medication works for all types of pain. Even opiates have trouble controlling neuropathic pain in some people. I am sorry that cannabis has not worked for you as well as it has worked for many others. As for medical use being "BS", may I offer you a small challenge? Please run a search for "Granny Storm Crow's MMJ Reference List" and read the studies and articles listed under "Pain" or "Neuropathic Pain" sections. I think there will be enough scientific evidence there to show you that, at least for some people, cannabis is a valid pain medicine. You are the exception, John, not the rule. For me personally, cannabis is the fastest working medication for my migraines. Not only does it work much faster than prescriptions, but a small daily (evening) dose, prevents my migraines from occurring. For me cannabis makes a big difference in the quality of my life. And I should know, I'm 62 and work in education.
I like the idea of regulating Medical Marijuana. How is the goverment planning on taxing these folks? How are we going to keep it Local, Legal & Accountable? If we had a way to track it MMJ it could really help reduce some of the local defecate.
