Unemployment Rate Drops

May's rate of four-point-nine percent compared with a rate of
six-point-two percent in May 2003. April's rate was five-point-one percent.

State labor officials say the workforce typically grows during
the spring as the tourism industry begins to focus on summer
activities.

In seasonally adjusted figures, job gains were reported in seven
of eleven industry sectors compared with a year ago.

Sectors with the biggest gains included professional and
business services, education and health services, leisure and
hospitality, and trade, transportation and utilities.

The nation's unemployment rate was steady at five-point-six
percent.
