Medical marijuana dispensary owners in Denver are starting to apply for operations licenses.

The city started accepting applications Monday.

Any person who owns at least a 10 percent share of a dispensary must apply for the license in accordance with a City Council ordinance passed in January.

The application includes a background check, fingerprinting and $2,000 fee, plus the cost of the background checks. There is also a $3,000 annual license fee. Dispensaries must submit applications by March 1 to continue legal operations.

Let me see, currently 100 thousand MMJ card holders can grow 6 plants each or someone can do it for them (caregiver). That means 600 thousand plants producing 2oz bud at $350 to $500 an oz. So 1.2 million oz x $400 =480 million dollars. Two crops plus can be grown a year. So conservatively speaking, it is now an estimated billion dollar industry in Colorado. My estimates do not include the rest of the plant which could bring in another 500 million. Which brings me to my point, almost all politicians know they can't stop what is going on. They want to sound concerned but they know the state could really profit from sales tax and licensing. They want part of the action too. Those fees seem extremely high don't they? I'm a conservative MMJ holder that is disgusted with what is going on at our State Capitol. We need to elect people that don't raise taxes and grow the govt.

Here's my ignorant question because obviously I must be missing something. Why don't doctor's offices simply give you the medicine while you are there? What a waste of time to have to drive somewhere else to get medicine. Isn't the point of going to a doctor's office to find a remedy to help the causes, whether that be medicine etc.?

To bob. Why do you think everybody is on welfare? I smoke and I make good money. Dope smokers built half of this city. Get your facts straight. We rule, you suck.
