Football fans will find the Super Bowl on 11 News this Sunday. Local emergency crews predict they will also see some action.
It is going to happen. There will be football on Super Bowl Sunday, and there will be parties.
"Beer. Grilling. Big Screen TV," said Jeremy, who plans on hosting a Super Bowl party this year.
Business is picking up where beverages of all kinds are sold.
"We've been packing out the beer, getting everyone prepared for their Sunday," said Cheers Liquor Mart cashier Kimberly Dixon.
American Medical Response spokesperson and Operations Manager Scott McCune said Thursday a prepared party host should know how much to serve and who's had too much.
"They do have a legal liability of the people they're entertaining and their guests to make sure they get home safe," McCune said.
AMR reported Thursday there are 41% percent more DUI accidents on Super Bowl Sunday translating into 600 more injuries on game day than on a typical Sunday. In some recent years, alcohol related deaths on Super Bowl Sunday have topped those happening on New Years Day, or Fourth of July.
To answer the statistics, AMR will staff extra crews to respond to emergencies Sunday, which pick up as the clock runs out.
"As people continue to party, while they're trying to get home we'll see an increase in call volume," McCune said.
He advised that hosts should know who will be designated drivers before the party starts. Hosts should consider serving plenty of food and non-alcoholic drinks, and if possible, offer alternatives other than the road.
"I always make sure people don't drink too much. If they do, they're staying with me until they're good to go," said Jeremy.
One other suggestion to party hosts: do it like the pros do. Consider putting a stop to alcohol at the end of the third quarter and steer everyone toward other refreshments.
Law enforcement across Southern Colorado will also increase DUI patrols this Super Bowl weekend.

I completely agree with Drew. As a future cop myself, I am totally against drinking and driving.
Plan on drinking and driving after the game? Good. I hope you get nabbed by the cops, and you deserve what you get. It's a choice YOU made. No one put a gun to your head and forced you to get behind the wheel after drinking. I only hope you don't take out any innocent people by your stupidity. Kudos for the cops for being out in force and taking care of these yahoos.
