The hot temperatures in southern Colorado have many people looking for a place to cool off. But, there's a right and wrong place to take a dip.
Monday night, two teenagers found that out the hard way when they were swept down the Arkansas River while they were tubing down it through Pueblo. Firefighters rescued the boys, but they were both cited for swimming in the river.
Rescuers say the river is deceptive and moves faster with a much greater force than people realize. And that, they say, is when people get themselves in trouble.
City officials say it is illegal to swim in the river or any other body of water within Pueblo city limits. Instead Pueblo residents are urged to go to the reservoir. But, though you're allowed to get in, there are rules there you must follow. State park officials say the Rock Canyon swim beach area is the only place you are allowed to swim.
