A strange sequence of events ends up with a couple getting carjacked, and a police officer shooting a robbery suspect.

It started around 9:45 Monday night, at the intersection of Omaha and Powers in Colorado Springs. Police say that's where Patrick Holland crashed his car into a power pole. When police arrived and confronted him, Holland pulled out a hand gun and carjacked a young couple who had stopped to help him. They say the suspect asked them for the cigarette lighter and the demanded the car.

Neither Sam Thompson nor Crystal Steele were harmed, but they're both shaken up. They say they were heading home when they say Holland wreck.

An officer with the Springs Police who confronted Holland at the scene, was forced back into his patrol car when the man pulled the gun out, stole the couple's car and tried to drive away. But, the officer was able to shoot Holland in the face before he was able to get very far.

Holland is in stable condition at Memorial Hospital.

And police now believe he may be the same man who robbed two local businesses at gunpoint earlier in the evening.
