Colorado Springs police are investigating a vandalism spree. More than 50 cars in the Rockrimmon neighborhood had their windows smashed in late Saturday night.

Police think the vandals are teenagers because witnesses told investigators they saw teenagers running around the streets and hitting some of the cars.

"It’s kind of a bad way to start a Sunday morning," said Craig Johnson. His and dozens of other car windows were busted out. Some cars cannot be driven because the windshields are smashed.

"Everybody was very upset, everybody got together to talk about it," said Cheryl Patterson.

Patterson found her Jeep Cherokee’s windshield smashed in. Next to the Jeep, on the sidewalk, she found a large, heavy rock. Patterson thinks the vandals used the rock to break her windshield. "It’s very nerve-racking,” said Patterson. “I thought this was a safe neighborhood, I hope it still is."

Another victim found a big rock sitting on the hood of their car, with almost all of the glass in the car broken. "Whoever did it, I don't care if they're 14, they need to go to jail," said Randy Shumard, who has been vandalized in the past.

If caught, the vandals will face felony criminal mischief charges due to the cost of the vandalism being in above $10,000.
