Hefley Plans to Seek Another Term

Republican Representative Joel Hefley has confirmed he will seek a 10th term in central Colorado's 5th Congressional District.

A member of the House Armed Services Committee, Hefley says work remains to be done on goals he set when he first took office, including security and economic issues.

Hefley defeated Democrat Curtis Imrie in 2002. He was first elected in 1986 after serving one term in the state House and two in the state Senate. The secretary of state's Internet site lists two candidates for
the district: Republican Michael W. Payton and Democrat Fred Hardee, both of Colorado Springs.

The district covers El Paso, Teller, Fremont, Lake, Chaffee and Park counties.
