Qwest Long Distance

(Denver-AP) -- Qwest Communications has won conditional backing
from the U-S Department of Justice in its efforts to provide
long-distance phone service.
The Justice Department has recommended Qwest be allowed to offer
long distance in Washington, Utah, Montana and Wyoming on the
condition that regulators monitor the company.
The Denver-based company provides local phone service in 14
Western states.
Qwest has to get approval from federal and state
regulators before it can offer long distance in each of the states.
The Federal Communications Commission is expected to announce
this fall whether Qwest can start doing that.
