State education officials have chosen a consulting firm to review financial activities of the Cesar Chavez School Network, which manages three charter schools in Pueblo and two in Colorado Springs.
The Colorado Department of Education said Wednesday that MGT of America Inc. has until May 3 to complete its independent review.
Critics have questioned the charter school system's salaries and school testing procedures.
Network officials have said the salaries are warranted.
Earlier this year, an audit of testing at Cesar Chavez Academy found many students were given extra time to complete state standardized tests from 2007 through 2009, but there was no evidence that the extra time improved test scores.
