Taking the Fall

Two people have resigned after an investigation discovered lax record keeping and errors in the licensing of emergency medical personnel at the state health department.

The pre-hospital care program director and certification manager have both resigned after being placed on paid leave since March. That's when scoring errors in two-dozen licensing tests were discovered.

An investigation finds medics were poorly screened for criminal backgrounds and applicants took exams in settings with no state official to monitor. The probe also found "study guides" containing test questions were also circulated before the exam.

The tests also haven't been revised since 1995.
