A man who is already behind bars is now charged for the murder of his own father. On Monday, Quinten Abeyta learned he will face second degree murder for allegedly killing his father, Russell Abeyta, three weeks ago.

Russell’s body was found in a trash can outside their home on the southwest side of Colorado Springs on December 7th.

According to court documents obtained by 11 News, Quinten Abeyta told investigators that he left the house for an hour and a half and when he got back, he found his dad in a pool of blood. He says he put him in the trash can because he didn't want anyone else to throw his dad away.

In the papers, detectives noticed that the snow impression in the back of Quinten’s white Chevy pick-up looked like the trash can may have been in the bed of the truck before it was set next to the house. Also, because of the tracks left in the snow, the white Chevy left the scene and returned later.

The documents say Quinten blamed another man for the murder, even naming a suspect, but cops say that person doesn't exist. Police noted there were no signs of blood on Quinten's clothing and no blood-stained weapons found at the scene. They won't say what evidence they have against Quinten including a motive.

Police say Quinten Abeyta is currently on parole. He recently served nine years in prison for assault and six years for burglary.

Detectives are still asking for the public's help. They're trying to figure out Quinten Abeyta's whereabouts the morning of December 7th. If you know anything, call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
