A Colorado couple who own a sled-dog racing business have been arrested on felony animal cruelty charges.

Samuel Walker and Diane Walker were arrested on Christmas Day after turning themselves into authorities. Arrests warrants had been issued for the two after Park County authorities reported finding six dead dogs and dozens of starving dogs December 17 at the Pawsatrak Racing Sled Dog Kennel near Hartsel, about 70 miles southwest of Denver.

The Walkers each are free after posting a $2,000 bond. The couple have been charged with: Aggravated Cruelty to Animals CRS# 18-9-202 (1) (a) (1.5) (b); a class 6 felony, 2 Counts and Cruelty to Animals; CRS# 18-9-202 (1) (a); a class 1 misdemeanor, 30 counts.

They are due in Park County Court at 9 a.m. January 4.

Authorities say they went to the kennel after getting an anonymous tip. The dogs were all crossbreeds of Alaskan descent used in sled racing.

Sheriff Fred Wegener would like to personally thank the following animal rescue facilities for their help and assistance along with the many volunteers that contributed their time and financial aid in this case: Ark-Valley Humane Society, Dumb Friends League, Longmont Humane Society, Boulder Humane Society, Pikes Peak Humane Society (Colorado Springs), Mariah’s Promise, Summit County Animal Shelter, Divide Animal Shelter, Leadville/Lake County Animal Shelter, Humane Society of Fremont County.

I am suggesting that everyone who is angered and upset by what these irresponsible and lazy people did to these dogs, really get involved. Many people who make money off of animals, rarely think about their "commodities" as living creatures. Therefore, the animals don't get the care they deserve. Watch and see what happens to the Walkers license after the Dept. of Ag. "reviews" this. If the outcome is not acceptable to us, we as citizens need to step up and create change. How many more cases are out there that haven't been reported? Most people are focused on this case, because of the national attention, but I guarantee that this incident isn't the only one. Get involved in advocating for animals. Volunteer at shelters and places like Nat'l Mill Dog Rescue to socialize and handle animals that aren't used to human touch and care. Channel that anger and disgust into something positive that will help give Gods creatures the love and life they deserve. After all they do for us, we owe them

Chain these sick animals up and let them try to fend for themselves. Give them the cruelty they gave their dogs. This is just way too much for ppl like me/the rest of us to handle in a calm fashion. They should never be able to get near another animal for the rest of their lives.

I can hardly understand a word von or Anna wrote nor understand what they're trying to say. If you're uneducated and can't write worth a darn then don't post on these type of sites. As for the story, I hope the Walker's are punished to the maximum extent of the law and are never allowed near animals again in their life time.
