A man found dead near Nichols Reservoir in El Paso County Sunday has been identified.

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Dr. Tony Ikehara. Dr. Ikehara was a resident of Colorado Springs and a respected optometrist in the city.

Sevene says hikers found his body near the frozen reservoir, just off Rampart Range Road, on Sunday afternoon. Officials say he appears to have frozen to death. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says the scene indicated Ikehara was ice fishing on the lake when he fell into the water. Ikehara was able to pull himself from the water and onto the shore but died from the elements. Hikers found him the next day.

Officials say the man's fishing pole was near his body. They also say his car wasn't too far, but the man did have to hike to the area where he was ice fishing.

The initial investigation, according to El Paso County Sheriff's Office Lt. Lari Sevene, appears to be an accidental death.

I must have missed this in the news when it happened, so I was very shocked when I received Dr. Lee's letter. I am so very sorry for his loss. I had just seen him in December & this is such a tragedy. My thoughts & prayers go our to his wife.

I was so shocked to open up a letter today indicating that Dr. Tony had passed away and that Doctor Lee, his close friend, was taking over the practice. Our Family loved Dr.Tony and life won't be the same without him - he was kind, thoughtful, a fellow sports fan, personable and excellent practitioner. We will miss him so very much. To his dear wife who he loved - please accept our sympathy. To Phyllis his right hand gal - I can only imagine how sad you are. May God comfort all who knew him and give you peace.
