They are helping teens fly high. A new non-profit in Colorado Springs is giving at risk teens a chance to learn about aviation and to fly airplanes. And for some going through the program even means getting a pilots license.

Andre Young is learning to fly airplanes and it's a dream come true for the 15-year-old who one day hopes to attend the Air Force Academy.

"I feel extremely lucky," Young said.

He has been up in the air with High Hopes for Teens several times.

"This gives the youth the opportunity to excel in something that they may not have the opportunity to do," said High Hopes for Teens Director Al Matthews. "For a time they are in control of themselves, when they are in the airplane."

Matthews says most importantly flying gives the teens confidence. "It focuses you on doing exactly what you are supposed to do. There is nothing like it," said Matthews.

Young just recently made his first flight at night. His next goal will be a solo flight, then eventually a pilot's license which he can't get until he's 17. In the meantime he'll keep working, thankful for what high hopes has done for him.

"I focus more and I try to strive a little higher," Young said.

High Hopes for Teens currently has about 15 kids enrolled in their program.
