Many organizations reach out to people in need, especially around the holidays. Pikes Peak Community Action Agency and Old Chicago Restaurant are no different in that respect. However, their delivery of these holiday services is leaps and bounds beyond your typical holiday meal.

Friday, nearly 500 people were fed and received gifts as part of the 5th annual Miracle on Tejon Street. The event brought together families struggling financially, with volunteers who gave up their holiday to serve. A traditional holiday meal was served buffet style, and families had the opportunity to get their pictures taken professionally, as well as meet Santa.

Kids were given gift bags filled with toys, books, and clothes, while adults were handed a gift card to Target. The experience will be a memorable one for many of the families who attended. "I didn't expect anything like this," says Rainbow Riley, mother of three with another on the way. Her children hadn't had an opportunity to see Santa this year, needless to say they were excited to sit on his lap and thank him for their gifts.

The families invited to the event are those who could use a hand up, not a hand out. Many are on the brink of losing it all. But for one day, they could laugh and smile, forgetting about their troubles for a while, all because of the generosity of the dozens of volunteers who made the event a reality.

Really people?!? This is a story about an organization doing an amazing thing for families in need and this is how you choose to comment on it? Who are you to judge who gets help and who doesn't??? While you sit there and judge, have you ever been part of something as touching and impacting as this event? I highly doubt it! What people choose to do with help that is out there is between them and their high power (who is not you, btw). Maybe what you should focus on it the great work that was done there today instead of balancing on your pedestal.

I can agree to the previous comment on how sad our young mothers in society have evolved to. It disgusts me as a tax payer to see and realize that these uneducated females do not try to prevent from reocurring incompetant reactions. They inevitably teach their children to follow in their foot steps. Why do we as a society promote this behavior and enable this contiguous redundant cycle. Are there not teachers to help these individuals or parents to set positive examples. Did this young lady not have a mother to guide her child. What is this world coming to? Then our news channel broad casts these stories and expects citizens to feel sorry for their incompetance. Instead of reflecting upon success stories ie. single parents who over come the struggle we focus on those who choose not to? This is not what should be projected and glorified to our youth. "Hey it's okay to keep having kids there are people out there to take care of them!" Thank you for passing that on sad but true

I think its sad there is women like rainbow riley who already have 3 children they cant properly provide for therefore they go to events like this in order for their children to be able to get presents and a good meal and oh look she has another on the way, another baby that will no doubt be paid for and raised on responsible working adults tax money! When will people like her start being responsible parents and learn to use birth control?
