Highway 115 Renamed Near Fort Carson

Highway 115 along Fort Carson was literally the “Road to Vietnam” for thousands of soldiers during one of the toughest times in American history. So it was only appropriate that that stretch of road be renamed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway.

Following a brief ceremony at Kit Carson Memorial Park, Vietnam vets helped to unveil a new sign---making the designation official. Among them---a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. He also reflected on our losses during Operation Iraqi Freedom. "There are no good wars and there really are not great outcomes as far as war is concerned, even though sometimes they're necessary," said retired SGT Peter Lemon.

During the 1960s, more than 100,000 soldiers trained at Fort Carson before being deployed to Vietnam.
