Nearly 100 dogs are recovering after being seized from their owners in Park County earlier in the week. Ten of them are resting at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Springs.

The CEO of the PPHS says four out of the ten will likely make a full recovery. He says time will only tell for the rest.

The dogs were discovered on Tuesday emaciated, malnourished and in dire need of medicine. "They're up and they're walking around, but they are very, very thin," said Dr. Wes Metzler, CEO of the Pikes Peak Humane Society.

But over the last several days the Husky, Malamute breeds have finally been eating, they've been given shots and worm medicine too.

Their owners Diane and Sam Walker, according to authorities, used them as sled dogs at their business in Park County and are accused of starving and neglecting them. "You know, you can get angry about it if you want, but I've been here long enough to know getting angry doesn't do much," said Dr. Metzler.

At least now, they're in good hands. All because of one person who spoke up when the dogs couldn't. "It's the only way that we're going to know," said Dr. Metzler.

It will be several weeks before anyone knows when the pups will be well enough for adoption.

By the time rescue could arrive at the property in Hartsel, which is about 70 miles southwest of Denver, six dogs had already died. One other dog has also died since they were seized. "Not all of these 100 dogs will survive, but a great number of them will," said Dr. Metzler.

Investigators say the Walkers will likely face felony animal cruelty charges.

This was also not their first run-in. In 2003 Sam Walker was charged with 103 counts of failure to obtain a dog license, plus one count of animal cruelty.

I am also interested in adopting one of these dogs. We have a great yard, and loving family ready when they are!

I know Sam he was working for Boeing and he used to bring those poor dogs to work and leave them in a trailer all day in the heat. I'm so happy that this man is finally going to be punished for this!
