Springs Utility crews have reopened North Carefree between Inspiration and Picturesque on the northeast side of Colorado Springs Thursday night. They had been repairing a water main break in that area since Wednesday evening.

About 25 customers in the area were impacted during the repairs.

Springs Utilities says that the weather has been putting stress on the city's pipe system. With sub-zero temps one week, and then warmer temperatures the next week, the ground freezes and then thaws, shifting the soil around the pipes. It's not clear if that shifting caused this water main break, but it is one explanation utility workers give for the recent number of water main breaks around the city.
