A Fort Carson family gets an extra special early Christmas present this year. They were one of seven families chosen from across the nation to have whatever wish they wanted granted.

It was all made possible thanks to a non-profit called Operation Once in a Lifetime, Head and Shoulders and a NFL star.

"It's just exciting to see people out there care for the soldiers," said Sgt. Robert McPherson.

Last month Robert McPherson and his family got their wish granted. Troy Polamalu, linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, along with Head and Shoulders granted the Mcphersons their wish. They gave the family a wheelchair accessible van for their 5-year-old daughter Tiffany.

Tiffany was born with Spina Bifida, a spinal cord condition that's left her confined to a wheelchair for life. Tiffany has been through ten surgeries most while her father was away fighting for our country.

"Several times the doctors told us that she wasn't going to make it. Just to take her off the ventilator," said her mom Shelby.

"She's come a long ways, we didn't expect her to make it this far and everyday is just a blessing to have her," sid Robert.

Tiffany's wheelchair wouldn't fit in their old van. "The van we had we would have to take the wheelchair apart to fit it in there," Robert said.

And it was tough for her mom to get her to all her weekly appointments. "She goes to physical therapy three times a week, she has speech therapy twice a week and she has 25 doctors that she sees a month," said Shelby.

Back in July the family wrote to Polamalu about their wish. Months later they were shocked to find out it had come true.

"Everytime we go out to the van we are just totally amazed that we even have it and that we were chosen," Shelby said.

Tiffany's wheelchair fits perfectly in the back of the new van and the Mcphersons never go for a ride without feeling thankful.

Operation Once in a Lifetime's mission is to make the dreams of soldiers and their families come true by providing free financial and moral support.
