Mike Miles is now the favored candidate in the Democratic race to take Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell's soon-to-be-open U.S. Senate seat.
About 3000 Democrats from across the state turned out this afternoon to hear speeches from both candidates.
With the delegates' votes in, Miles takes a lead over Colorado Attorney General Ken Salazar with 51% compared to Salazar's 49%.
The current Senate race is an important one because it could tip the balance of power in Congress. Miles says that's exactly what the people want.
"It's a testament to what's going on in the country. I think alot of Democrats want to see the country on a different track."
Miles' lead today means his name will be above Salazar's on the ballot in the August 10th primary.
The Republican candidates will be speaking at a state convention scheduled for June 5th at the Pepsi Center.
