Railroad Cars Derail in Colorado Springs

Authorities say 13 railroad cars derailed near Drennan Industrial Loop just south of Astrozon & Hancock Wednesday night. They are part of a train that had more than 100 cars on it. The cars that derailed were close to the end.

Colorado Springs Police say the cars were filled with coal only. There were no chemicals inside those cars and there is no contamination.

The train was headed south when the accident happened. There is no word if the accident is weather related at this time.

Railroad officials will clean-up the coal spill. The exact cause of derailment is unknown at this time.
