Snow-packed and icy roads that demand a driver’s attention are already stacking up delays for Wednesday.

To the eye, it's not so bad.

A blanket of lasting snow created the feel of a winter wonderland.

On the roads, and on the skin, an estimated 10 below zero in Woodland Park, CO felt downright miserable.

"It's probably the coldest it's been all season, and it's probably the coldest I hope it ever gets this season," said Seth Gibson of Woodland Park.

To some, the driving wind and frigid temps brought more with them than just a dangerous night out and about Tuesday night.

"It's been so bad today," said Gail Shumway.

It was bad enough to bring down a 30 foot pine tree on Gail’s mini-van near downtown Colorado Springs. Gail believes the tree collapsed under the weight of winter-like conditions.

"There was no dry rot on it, there was no bugs eating it. It was its day to go,” she said.

Gail and her brother were home at the time the tree came down, and they are fine. A friend will come out first thing Wednesday morning to cut up the tree into firewood.

A journey out on almost any snow-packed and icy street is nothing to laugh about. It's enough to keep Gail Shumway indoors.

"Even if I didn't have a tree on my car, I'm not going anywhere," she said.

It’s also enough to slow most commutes to a crawl.

I'm a bit surprised what the city considers "side-streets"... I expected Austin Bluffs, Academy Blvd, and other main streets to be cleared, but along with other drivers had to guess where the lanes are. I bet if the city cleared the roads like any other city, the schools wouldn't have to be closed/delayed.
