A head-on collision in eastern El Paso County has injured multiple people and closed the roads in the area for a period. The site of the accident, Ellicott Highway and Jones Road, was cleaned up around 5 p.m. Thursday.
Investigators say a 1975 Chevrolet van was traveling north on Ellicott Highway, when it crossed the center line and struck a 2005 Ford F-250 pick-up truck traveling southbound.
The driver of the van, Clinton Peterson, 18, of Colorado Springs, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Memorial Hospital by helicopter. The driver of the pick-up, Amy Giegerich, 21, of Ellicott, also sustained serious injuries and was transported to Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Giegerich also had three children in the pick-up, ages 5 months, 5 and 4. The children had only minor injuries. They were all in child seats and seat belts.
There was a passenger in the van who was also injured but is in stable condition.
Investigators say they will test the driver of the van in the hospital to see if alcohol played a role in the crash. The cause of the accident is unknown at this time.
