A 76-year-old southern Colorado man is behind bars. He admitted to Sheriff’s deputies that he shot and killed his own adult son.
A quiet Thanksgiving Day turned violent in an instant. “I heard a loud noise like something crashing,” said Brian Baker. “I didn't pay much attention to it at the time until deputies arrived on scene.”
Arrest papers show the alleged shooter Aylais Oliver was still supporting his 49-year-old sonKieth Oliver. Investigators say the shooting was the result of an argument over chores.
The older Oliver told police that he and his son had been arguing for hours when the victim's mother, 75-year-old Marjorie Oliver, asked her son to leave. When he refused, the arrest affidavit says the father went upstairs, retrieved a .357-calber revolver and shot his son once in the head.
After the shot was fired Oliver sat down on the steps with the gun until his wife made him put the gun down.
The arrest papers also show, Oliver, a retired military man, was still working to support his family and make rent and car payments for his twin sons, one of which is the son he admitted to shooting.
Aylais Oliver is being held without bond for the Thanksgiving Day shooting. He was advised of his first degree murder charge Friday.
Investigators also say, Oliver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and he has no history of mental problems.

My prayers to the family. Can't justify what the dad did, but people can only take so much. Sounds like these "boys" needed a lesson in self-reliance. Grow up and get out!
This is so sad for the father and mother, both in their 70's and still supporting lazy grown men. I'm afraid this happens in many families, mine is one those. My father is also in his 70's and is supporting my lazy sister and her son who is 22. These older folks feel that there is no way out of this kind of situation. These losers do nothing to help the parents just take.
