A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. A tornado in Elbert County has destroyed a farm house and barn Monday night. Despite being homeless, the family of four is unharmed.
Elbert County Sheriff Bill Frangis says at least six tornadoes touched down in the county. He says they knocked out electric power from the town of Simla north to Interstate 70. Earlier in the evening twisters touched down just south of the Wyoming border in Weld County and north of Limon.
