A former Colorado man serving life in prison for killing a Colorado Springs liquor store owner has been sentenced to death for murdering his girlfriend in Tennessee.
A Memphis jury convicted 36 year old Robert Joe Hood in the 2001 killing of Toni Banks. Prosecutors said Banks' two young children were locked in her apartment with their mother's body for several hours until a neighbor let them out.
An El Paso County jury earlier convicted Hood of first-degree murder, armed robbery and other charges in the shooting death of 43 year old Hyung Lee. He was shot in front of his wife and son on Memorial Day 2001.
Hood was also convicted of kidnapping a man from a Colorado Springs area car wash and threatening to kill him and his wife.
