Faculty members at the University of Colorado's Boulder campus are considering whether to propose some big changes for the school's athletic department.
Tomorrow, the Faculty Assembly will vote on a proposal that would suggest tighter control of the department by CU's provost and chancellor.
Assembly chair Barbara Bintliff says the proposal has broad support and would help correct problems that the assembly has identified.
The group's proposed recommendations include requiring higher academic standards and re-evaluating scholarship policies and athletic scheduled to improve academic performance. It also is looking at a proposal to improve institutional control to stop what it calls over-commercialization of athletics.
The vote comes as the school continues to deal with fallout from allegations of sexual assault and harassment involving athletes in the football program.
