A 76-year-old southern Colorado man is behind bars, accused of killing his own son.

El Paso County Sheriff's Office is conducting a homicide investigation following a shooting Thursday afternoon at 4030 Oberding Drive in southern El Paso County.

Authorities believe 76-year-old Aylais Oliver shot his son, Keith Oliver, 49, once in the head. It happened inside Oliver's garage.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an argument over chores at a Thanksgiving dinner.

"That argument escalated to the point where the father grabbed a handgun and shot his son once in the head," said EPCO Sheriff's Office Bureau Chief, Joe Breister.

Investigators report Keith Oliver and his brother were visiting their parent's home for Thanksgiving.

"A festive Thanksgiving environment is now a somber moment in the neighborhood for people who witnessed this, or know what happened," Breister said.

Breister said investigators are dealing with an intentional shooting, making this a homicide investigation.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
