Colorado Springs police have arrested a man for the death of his 3-month old son.
Around 6:00 a.m. Monday morning, detectives with the Colorado Springs Police Department Major Crims Unit were called to a residence in the 6100 block of Romley Point. They found a severely injured 3-month old boy. Medical personnel were able to keep the infant alive. But on Wednesday, the boy died from his injuries at Memorial Hospital.
The El Paso County Coroner's office has completed an autopsy on the boy. It was determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma and was ruled a homicide.
Police say the baby was in the sole care of his father, 24-year-old Jeffery Parks, at the time of his injuries. On Monday, Parks was arrested on an attempted first-degree murder charge. Now that the child has died, the District Attorney's office intends to request that it be upgraded to first-degree murder.
This is the seventh homicide so far in Colorado Springs in 2004.
