(Durango-AP) -- Officials tonight say the wildfire burning at
Mesa Verde National Park is threatening some historical structures
-- but firefighters say they hope they can be saved.
The fire is burning between Navajo and Soda canyons -- close to
the Chapin Mesa area of the park. Chapin Mesa is home to several
artifacts and historical structures including Cliff Palace, Sun
Temple and Balcony House.
Park officials say air tankers, helicopters and hand crews
continue to battle the blaze -- which has been growing rapidly.
The park has been evacuated of hundreds of workers, family
members and visitors.
Two years ago two fires at the park burned a total of about
28-thousand acres and damaged some structures and artifacts.
