A terrible accident at the Breckenridge Ski Resort has one Colorado Springs family mourning. Haley Gans, at the fragile age of 14, hit a tree and died while skiing down her last run on Friday.

Haley's mom, Patricia, told 11 News the whole family has been crying non-stop. So, on Sunday, they decided to make it a happier day by remembering and cherishing moments from when Haley was still alive.

Her family tells 11 News Haley was wildly talented and so very sweet. "She spread love to everybody," said Haley's older brother, Jake Gans.

Family and friends are still trying to take it all in and trying to understand why this had to happen to her. "At one point, the mind kind of stops," said Francisca Schreier who is a close family friend.

Everyone who knew Haley said she had a special place in her heart for figure skating. "If she wasn't ice skating she was on her horse or at the beach," said Jake Gans.

Haley also loved hitting the slopes. Her family says she was excellent at that, too. "Every time we went down the ski slope she was the first one down almost every time," said Jake Gans.

Her big sister Rebekah and Francisca say they have so many fond memories of little Haley. "She loved dress up as a kid. Us three girls would always get dressed up," said Schreier.

Haley also had a little partner in crime, her pug dog Sushi. Haley was hearing impaired so she always had her buddy with her, but her family says her disability never defined her or prevented her from doing anything she wanted. "She grew up being this special person. She was strong in her own way," said Schreier.

Haley's big sister Rebekah wrote this for her sister. "Haley was a beautiful and loving light in my life and I can not express how much I will miss her. I love you my beautiful little sister and will hold you in my heart forever."

Haley's brother Jake says he plans to get a tattoo on his chest in memory of his baby sister.

Haley was wearing her helmet when she hit the tree. Authorities say she died of blunt force trauma to her body.

"I luv u", this is what we used to say to each other. She was and still is so peppy, sweet, generous, funny, loving and the best girl I had ever had the pleasure of knowing. I miss her so much, and yet I don't because i know she is safe now and in a better place just waching over us making sure we're safe too. " I luv u",and i miss you :);)
