A two car accident caused traffic backups in the area of Ft. Carson's Gate 1 Friday evening. Authorities closed Highway 115 at milepost 40 in both directions for about 40 minutes. The area reopened at 5:45 pm.

Colorado State Patrol says a 2003 Ford Focus, driven by 20 year old Elizabeth Fluharty of Colorado Springs was southbound on CO 115 and attempted to make a u-turn when she was struck by a northbound pickup driven by 34 year old Richard Bitters of Colorado Springs.

Both drivers and a teenage passenger from the Ford were taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in this accident.
