Preventing A School Disaster

On a day when a gunman terrorized the campus of Virginia Tech, the Pueblo Police Department S.W.A.T. team toured several area high schools to in hopes of preventing the same type of event.

S.W.A.T. members spent the day combing through Central, Centennial, and East high schools learning the layout and preparing for what they might do in the event of an active shooter. Every inch of each school was searched along with district officials to find any spot where a criminal or even a victim could be found.

This is not the first time the team has toured the schools, but officials say the more familiar the tactical teams can get with the schools, the better.

A school is a perfect place for violent criminals - so many unarmed victims. No one will shoot back! Until school officials wake up and arm their staff (at the very least their Security staff) schools will continue to be targets.
