It used to be part of holiday shopping: a free gift box to go along with your purchase. Those days may be over for good.
This year, more than a few major retailers are either declining to provide those boxes or charging you a dollar or more for them.
Don't expect free gift boxes from Old Navy, TJ Maxx or Abercrombie and Fitch this year. Target won't hand them out either.
There are some exceptions. Macy's is still providing boxes, and so is Victoria's Secret.
Some American Apparel stores are not only providing boxes, they'll wrap your gift for no charge.
