Colorado Springs police tell 11 News Tejon Street has reopened in both directions at Colorado Avenue after falling ice dangers. The sidewalks remain closed in front of the United States Olympic Committee building.

Firefighters were called to 27 S. Tejon Street just before 10 a.m. Monday on reports of large chunks of ice and snow falling from the roof of the 4-story building.

Lt. Brian Keys says this is the first time they have been called to the building.

"They are about 5 to 6 inches thick of ice and as large as 15 feet long, so we have large chunks that firefighters have noticed on the roof that have fallen," said Lt. Brian Keys with the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

11 News contacted city officials regarding the design of the building and what will be done to prevent this in the future. City spokesperson Sue Blumberg says they have contacted Oz Architecture, the company that designed the building. Blumberg did not say what, if anything, will be done about the design.

Blumberg did break down the costs of blocking off the road and sidewalks for the entire day Monday and part of the day Tuesday. Blumberg tells 11 News "The cost of staffing a fire apparatus with 4 personnel (Fire Lieutenant, Driver/Engineer, Paramedic, Firefighter) costs $364 per hour. One apparatus was on scene for 5 hours at a total cost of $1820. Additional information, a Battalion Chief was called to the scene, as well as a PIO/Lieutenant. The cost of the Battalion Chief for 3 hours is $87.80. The cost of the PIO/Lieutenant for 2 hours is $50.54. Total cost of $1958.34."

Four cars parked in metered parking spots were damaged by the falling ice. The city says they plan to pay for the damage to those cars.

this building is unfinished right??? this could have happened to any building in Colorado...yes its bad that damaged occurred because of the ice, but at least they blocked off the area so that no other vehicles or people could have been hurt and for that we should all be thankful!
