Due to budget issues, Colorado Springs snow plows are not going to clear residential streets unless there is at least 6 inches of snowfall.

Snow plows started pushing the icy sleet and fluffy snow off the streets starting at 5:00 a.m. Saturday.

"Everything was very icy, it was very difficult getting out of the driveway and down the street," said Clarisse Pfeiffer.

Ken Winckler, the operations manager for the Colorado Springs Street Division tells 11 News a lack of funding is keeping plows off residential side streets. "For us to respond before there's six inches is always difficult anyway,” said Winckler. “Its usually after we've taken care of all the primaries, all the secondaries, the school routes, the hospitals, places like that."

Leaving the snow and ice on neighborhood roads is tough for some to deal with. "Its very frustrating knowing I can't get to work unless I can get to the main roads," said Pfeiffer.

"Everybody's a little short these days I guess," said Mark Correll.

We can expect these plowing restrictions for residential streets to continue next year because of budget cuts the city council is expected to approve in next few weeks.

Do they really think we're that stupid? I've never seen a snow plow on any of the residential streets in my area, and I've lived here in the Springs since 1995! Will they ever get that people are fed up with their irresponsibility? (Nah! Probably not!) Time to clean up city government!
