Former New Life pastor Ted Haggard is starting over. He is leading a worship group of followers in Colorado Springs. He called the prayer meeting at his house three years after a sex and drug scandal forced him out of the church he founded.

More than a hundred showed up even though the Haggards were expecting less than 20 people. Those who showed up say they are ready for Haggard to be a spiritual leader again.

“That was a fatal blow I took. I created it for myself, but people love a comeback. What I mean is that I was able to get up again," Haggard tells 11 News.

He started the prayer meeting with a teaching from the Bible. “Love is patient, love is kind, and love is gentle. Patience and kindness means a whole lot to me and my family now," says Haggard.

“You know, there's no guarantee he won't fall again, but we love him anyway," says Alan Hawkins, a pastor who drove all the way from Albuquerque just to attend the meeting.

“He touched my life. He blessed me when I had struggles. I'll never forget that," says Hawkins.

"I know tonight will bring a new church for Pastor Ted. It maybe in his living room or it may be in a building the size of New Life, but it will be a new church,” says Lisa Vanbebber.

Haggard says he has no intention of starting a new church at his house even though that's how new life started 25 years ago. He says he intends to hold this prayer meeting every week from now on.

They collected an offering at the prayer meeting. Half of that money is going to go to New Life Church. The other is going to non-profit.

A publicist here at the house was also passing out a preview of Gayle Haggard's new book about why she stayed with her husband. It's going to be released in January.

You know what i think? It is all a big joke...He needs to not be in colorado springs anymore. Sell his house that the people of his church paid for give all of them their money back and leave. What a crock!! You cant get rid of being "gay" by prayer really...??What idiot would believe that..?? "I was gay but then I prayed and now I'm not what a concept." I have a friend that is gay and I can tell you right now I have never met anyone else in my life that is more lovable and compassionate about everything and everyone in their life..For anyone that doesn't like gay people probaly should just leave with him...Grow up really what century are we living in again??

Though I believe in religious freedoms, I dont concern myself with attending churches or "pray meeting" due to the fact many, not all preach one thing and do the other. Basically hypcrites. I never heard of a Mega Church until living in Colorado Springs nor places like "Focus on the Family" I guess the springs attracts the a lot of the unusual and strange. I didnt think this story was news worthy in the first place. The only good thing the broadcast pointed out is that Ted Haggard did not want to be interviewed, but noted that he had hired a documentary film crew. Again hypocrite comes to mind. Pray the Gay Away? Is that what he's trying to do? Remarkable. Mr. X, Atheist? You sound more like a racist hate mongering moron, what has this story to do with muslims or the Koran? Does Ted need to go away? Not at all! Just dont make him front page news everytime someone walks thru his door and we will all be just fine. You are right Me it is scary a bunch of folks in the house what will we do

.. You can't pray the gay away .. This guy is a genius ... he lives an huge house, does anything he wants .. gets caught in some pretty big lies and people still line up to give him money ... WOW! .. Its not him, but the idiots that line up to support him that should be the topic of this Comment Board.
