The El Pomar Foundation gave the city of Colorado Springs a $3 million grant to keep the USOC in town.

"We have secured them (USOC) here for the next 30 years," said Colorado Springs Mayor Lionel Rivera

This money comes before a November 18, 2009 deadline which satisfies the next phase of the agreement between the USOC and the city.

"This will have a significant impact on maintaining the city of Colorado Springs as a home to the Olympic movement in this country," said USOC chief operating officer Norm Bellingham.

The next step, according to Mayor Rivera, is to secure another $3 million in private funding by a September 18, 2011 deadline.

The El Pomar Foundation has granted more than $9 million dollars to the USOC which set up shop in Colorado Springs in 1977. According to the El Pomar Foundation, this latest grant does not affect their priority to health and human services organizations.

"We think the USOC plays a vital role as part of the fabric of this community," said Chairman and CEO of the El Pomar Foundation Bill Hybl.

The city of Colorado Springs will continue to raise money over the next two years to fulfill its obligation to the USOC.

so, my question is . . . how much DID they raise? I'd be willing to bet they fell far short of this goal. I 'd also be willing to bet that the elitist broadmoor types, the ones funding El Pomar and pulling the strings that keep Rivera afloat, had this planned all along. I realize that its charitible, and its not costing the city anything to keep it here, but we just got bullied by whoever is sitting on the El Pomar board. its a sad day when the 1% of our citizens, who have 99% of the money, bully the 99% of our citizens, who have only 1% of the city's money. This is all about William J. Hybl; what sort of elitist, google his name, would live in a city without the USOC. I really think it was just for his convenience that we went so far to keep it here. I mean after all a guy that serves as President Emeritus of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and served twice as President. This guy is connected to the Olympics at the hip. Sure makes it easier to travel to work at the Broadmoor.

For all of you whiners out there who think that 2c is the reason they are cutting fire/police/education, think again. We gave the city money for this a couple of years ago and where did it go??? This is why 2C did not pass. Why doesn't EL Pomar give this big donation to the city fire/police force to help keep them and let the USOC go someplace else and be greedy.
