Crews are reinforcing fire lines around the Big Elk fire near Rocky Mountain National Park.
Rain and higher humidity have helped the crews and helicopters slow the blaze, which is now 70 percent contained.
Two crew members of an air tanker died last week as the 4,400 acre burned out of control and forced the evacuation of about 500 homes in the area. All residents have been allowed to return home.
Firefighters hope to have the fire fully contained by Saturday.
