Investigators are still trying to figure out what started a two alarm fire at the Cobblestone Ridge Apartments on the southwest side of Colorado Springs. The two-story complex started on fire around 2:15 Saturday morning at 4140 Pebbleridge Circle.

On Sunday, some residents were let back into their apartments. 8 Units were evacuated for about 24 hours after the fire. Those units were not damaged by the fire, but they are in the same building where 8 other units were heavily damaged.

11 News was first on the scene as people started evacuating and running for safety from the fire.

Eight apartments were badly damaged, displacing eight famlies. Everyone escaped safely. Two were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Firefighters also rescued a dog inside.

The extent of the damage is still unknown.

The glow of orange and red is a familiar sight for Colorado Springs fire fighters. This apartment fire is the third blaze in less than 24 hours to call out multiple crews. "Had a lot of fire coming from the top floor going through into what looked like the roof at that time," says Lt. Jeff Sievers of the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

For Jacob Layba, it was a quiet night until a few hours later. "Got up and looked out the window and whole balcony was engulfed in flames rising above the roof about 20 feet," says Layba.

He noticed the chaos as those who lived here ran for safety. "There's people running around trying to get people out of the apartments," says Layba.

Firefighters say because the residents evacuated quickly, that's what saved their lives.

Our son and daughter-in-law's apartment was destroyed in the fire. They barely got in time, and only with their robes and cat. We send a heart-felt thank you to all the people who helped out - especially the people who responded so quickly to wake everyone and get them out to safety, the people who offered clothing to wear, the courageous fire fighters who put themselves in danger to make sure nobody was hurt and further apartments weren't destroyed, and our family who has gathered together to offer their support. The emotions we've felt in the past day and a half are unbelievable. We are so thankful that no lives were lost!

If the the reporter will check the records there was a 4th fire at 4 in the morning on Friday when it appears someone set fire to a trailer causing it to burn to the ground and damaging the garage it was parked by and bringing down phone and cable lines. I hope this is not a response to the voting down of a bill to raise our taxes. I voted no because I dont trust the city wasting more of our tax dollars. If cuts need to be made lets start with the city council.

My daughter was one of the victims of Cobble Stone fire, she had sent a text message to her manager of Family Daughter of Widefield.. letting them know her apt was on FIRE.and wouldn't be able to make it to work on Saturday.. she then got a text message back from her acting store manager saying OH My...then was told that she had to find a replacement for her on Saturday or Come into work OR ELSE... when my daughter told me this I was FURIOUS to say the least..not one word was mentioned if she was OK and how can I help you...but instead told to find a replacement or come into work.. how sad and pathetic is this??? NO COMPASSION here what so ever~!!! Then this "acting" manager told the General Manager that My Daughter was ok.. and that she had already moved out her possessions ...which is INSANE.....I can tell you as a witness .her apt is blocked off and no way to get in to get anything.everything in her place is a Total LOSS~!!!..HOW DARE YOU FAMILY DOLLAR..Shame on you...
