Trenchcoat Bandit Strikes Again

Police are still looking for a man who robbed a bank on the north side of Colorado Springs then fired several shots at them before leading them on a high speed chase.

The so-called "Trenchcoat Bandit" walked into a Bank One branch around 1:30 Friday afternoon.

As he was leaving, he fired shots at police. At least 4 bullets hit a patrol car but the officer was not injured.

Springs police say officers did not return fire.

They chased the man in his gray SUV through town but eventually lost sight of him.

Police think he's robbed 14 banks in Colorado Springs since 2001. Friday's holdup is believed to be his third this year.

Detectives say one reason he's been so hard to catch is that he fully conceals his face during the robberies.
