Riley, Two differant fires. Hente's was a different fire! Nothing like having the facts wrong when you are trying to slam someone, moron!

In regard to the 2C debate, there was no guarantee that the increased revenue from a property tax increase would be used for police and fire and there was no apparent end to its effects on future property tax bills. That is why I voted No. I did vote for the sales tax increase on one of the previous ballots. I don't believe in the costs of property tax being passed along. Who would I pass too, my pets? 2C was just another money grab attempt, plain and simple. There was another not too many years before and it failed too. Laying off people in a time of record high unemployment may balance the budget in the short term, but it won't resolve the ills of short-sighted self-serving city management. I hear there's a recall petition... where do I sign??

Riley, what do you mean by "one of Hentes projects"? Just curious... As for the slam against CSFD for "saving the foundation", you do know that the fire was well out of control before they got there, and they had no chance of saving anything, right? Or are you just another one of those loud mouth "know-it-alls" who reallt know nothing at all? hmmmm...?

Nothing weird about it being one of Hente's projects considering the outcome of 2C. Aaaaand he personally thanked CSFD at the budget markup session for saving the foundation.

With all the dry summer growth, this is a very dangerous time of the year.

You still have not identified any waste! Stop avoiding the issue, you made the claim now validate it! Apparently you need a lesson in Business and Economics 101. The owners of rentals and motels will pass the expense on to the renter, DUH! Your suggestion of sales tax is not going to solve the problem. That is largely why we are in this mess now. We have relied largely on sale tax to fund the fixed expenses of emergency services. Sales tax revenues are down approximately 20% due to the economy. Emergency services should be funded by a more stable revenue such as property tax. Property tax revenue will not fluxuate as much as sale tax. I suppose your suggestion would be to cut emergency services everytime sales are down, then increase emergency services everytime sales go up? Thats right, there wouldn't be a need to increase services because of all the waste that you have not yet been able to identify!

Reality, I assure you I am well aware of the resources it taks to handle the situations of which you speak about. Lets just say that I know you are angry regarding 2C. It is an unfair tax. Homeowners are paying the bill for emergency services with 2C. What about the folks that rent homes? Visit our area? Live in motels all the time? Should they pay their part also? Truth is there is wasteful spending in all areas of Government and it needs to be delt with. I am all for paying a little more but if I have to then so should those that take advantage of all of the services that have been threatened to be taken away. Stop the waste, put a 1/4 % sales tax on purchases and at the level that State, County, and all of the Cities within our region benefit, not just the City of Colorado Springs. As far as validating my statements...calm down and dont let your anger get the best of you.

Really?, I have done my research, your response is a cop out. You are the one who claimed waste is a fact, and provided no proof. Do you have any understanding what PD resources are needed for various emergencies, traffic accidents, and domestic violence? Do you understand anything about the fire service and the resources needed for wildland, structure fires, or cardiac arrests? You throw out accusations that you can't justify, and when challenged you expect other people to validate them. Your statements are all fluff with no substance. You will have to do better than that if you want to convince anyone.

Reality, Do the research yourself. To make you understand you have to do the research. Find out what they have spen money on or how many units respond to scenes. It's all right there in front of you. Work a little, its your Govt. learn about it and be involved. Also regarding the grammer class, I ran out of characters. Sorry to insult your intellegence.

Really?, you make a generic statement that PD and FD executive boards "spend money wastefully and waste resources beyond belief (FACT)." Please provide specifics. Where are the "FACTS"? Glad that you have taken a "govt class", maybe you should try a grammar class.

I've read the comments regarding 2C in almost every report on KKTV's page regarding the fires! Really? If you jump on the band wagon that 2C was a travisty for not passing then you are as uneducated as the majority. Wildland fire crews were called in also. But lets give credit to just the ones effected by 2C! Yes our city government is corrupt, so is our PD's executive board, so is our FD'S executive board, they spend money wastefully and waste resources beyond belief (FACT). They should be held accountable. You uneducated commentors do not help the situation any you just fuel the problem. Please, Please start thinking before you type and read, attend meetings, find out where the money goes. Then ask nicely that our City Council step down and fill the positions with people that will hold those entities accountable and control the budgets that they have now. It wont cost us more money just better management. Take a govt class too and learn how it works. State, County, then City! DUH!!!

A spec. house under construction - during one of the worst real estate markets in history. Hum. Yep, the insurance company will be looking at this one! Interesting the news reports do not name the builder or developer. Very interesting that it wasn't covered by the Gazette.

I was surprised not to hear anything on the radio about this fire while delivering pizzas this evening. I started smelling smoke sometime after ~6:30PM and was trying to find the source. I finally spotted it clearly from Peterson Air Force Base while making a delivery there. Having spotted it, I continued to see it clearly as a very bright orange blaze as I continued back to and up Powers Blvd. I can't imagine the intensity of the blaze considering the distance from which it was so clearly visible. Sounds like nobody was hurt, glad to hear that. From reading responses here sounds like others saw this from similar and even greater distances. Crazy.
