Colorado Springs Prepared for Large-Scale Emergency
The Colorado Springs Police Department wants to reassure residents that they are prepared for a large-scale emergency. They train on a regular basis for several different scenarios, including an active shooter.

Some Colorado Springs residents are wondering if something like what happened at Fort Hood happened here how police would handle it.
The Colorado Springs Police Department wants to reassure residents that they are prepared for a large-scale emergency.
They train on a regular basis for several different scenarios, including an active shooter.
"I think it's important for the community to know, we're ready. we have a strong partnership with our friends at Fort Carson and if any sort of event happened here, we'd be ready and able to assist them in any possible way," said Lt. David Whitlock, Colorado Springs Police Department.
Hospitals in the Pikes Peak Region are also ready.
"If someone were to have a level two event, which something like Fort Hood would probably trigger, within 15-20 minutes we would make an additional 125 beds available," said Bill Mayfield, Emergency Response Coordinator for Memorial Health System.
Mayfield says an in-depth mass causality plan is already in place that all hospitals in El Paso County would use.
