A 1991 Air Force Academy graduate has been chosen by NASA as an astronaut candidate, as part of the first class since the Columbia shuttle blew up last year.
Major James Dutton of Edwards Air Force Base in California is the only airman among eleven military and civilian candidates accepted by NASA this year.
He will help develop and test a spacecraft for the recently announced Moon-Mars mission.
Dutton earned an astronautical engineering degree from the Air Force Academy. He is a test pilot with the 411th Flight Test Squadron at Edwards.
